# Standalone Folia

Folia uses region-based threading. A plugin being compatible with Paper does not make it Folia-compatible.

## Install

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Back up and check requirements

Back up the server and authentication data. Check the [runtime requirements](/flp-wiki/understand-flp/requirements.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install the plugins

Stop the server. Install the **Folia** FLP artifact in `plugins/`, not the Bukkit artifact. Install Folia-compatible builds of your auth plugin and packet library as well.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Configure the server

Set `online-mode=false` in `server.properties`. For a direct server, disable BungeeCord and Velocity forwarding.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Configure FLP

Start once, confirm that all dependencies enabled successfully, then stop. Edit `plugins/fastloginplus/config.yml` using the [standalone setup choices](/flp-wiki/install-and-deploy/standalone.md), including the UUID decision.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Restart and check

Restart the server, check that the plugins load, and try premium and password login with test accounts.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Folia permissions use `fastloginplus.folia.command.*`, not `fastloginplus.bukkit.command.*`.

## Behind a proxy

Use the [Velocity](/flp-wiki/install-and-deploy/velocity.md) or [BungeeCord](/flp-wiki/install-and-deploy/bungeecord.md) guide, installing the Folia edition on the backend. FLP does not need backend ProtocolLib in this setup, but other plugins must still support Folia.

Restart fully after installation or configuration changes; do not use plugin hot-loaders or generic reload commands.

See [Folia's official documentation](https://docs.papermc.io/folia/) for its plugin compatibility and scheduling model.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://hayston.gitbook.io/flp-wiki/install-and-deploy/folia.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
